My Journey: From Pixels to Systems
I didn’t just set out to make a game; I set out to understand the invisible rules that govern life. As an iOS developer with a deep-seated obsession for high-performance graphics—specifically SwiftUI and Metal—I’ve always been drawn to the "how" behind the "what."
Before Emergent.D, I spent my time pushing the boundaries of what mobile hardware could handle. I wanted to see if I could create something that felt less like a scripted sequence and more like a living, breathing machine. This curiosity led me to experiment with pixel-based life forms—tiny, digital entities governed by primitive logic.
How It "Emerged"
The project began as a playground for DNA-based simulation. I started by writing kernels that allowed pixels to do more than just change color; they had "traits." They had needs, they had behaviors, and most importantly, they had the ability to pass those traits on.
As I watched these digital organisms interact, something fascinating happened: emergence. Simple rules led to complex, unscripted behaviors. These tiny pixels began to form ecosystems, fight for resources, and adapt to their environments in ways I hadn't explicitly programmed.
